It's a collection of excerpts taken (mostly) from an online journal I kept during my second deployment to Iraq as a United States Marine Corps Infantryman. I was with D Company, Third Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

The deployment was part of the second iteration of Operation Iraqi Freedom, or OIF-II, and took place August 2004 to April 2005.

The journal was public, but I was mostly writing for friends and family. I keep it here as an artifact of my time in the service, both to remind myself of my history and as a communication of parts of my identity that I have trouble verbalizing.

I'm Joe Moon. I dropped out of second year of college to enlist in September of 2002. I got out of my four-year enlistment as a Corporal and returned to school on the Montgomery GI Bill. More about me on my website.

Email me if you need to get in touch.
